Pixel Resolution and Contrast Ratio and response times are good indications of performance. Connectivity is also important Newer DVD players are using HDMI connectivity but also general use no of scarts RGB Scart etc even VGA pc input to use as a monitor.
To be honest the best thing to do is shortlist a few using the statistics and price. Then go and see them take some of your own stuff to view DVD Video, stuff that stretches their performance Something very dark, something colourful, something bright. Take your time most of the good ones are pricey.
I found Samsungs 32″ The shiny black one (LR32BDX or something simlar) and Sony’s Bravia to be both very good. The Sony tends to cost a little more and so it got the axed as I couldn’t see any difference and didnt look as good.

resolution and contrast are more important than brightness, and it’s best to go for high definition and digital ready models, but some of the more important things often aren’t listed in the specifications. Without getting too technical, there are different ways to light the screen from behind and different ways to display the image on the screen, and these can make a big difference in the sharpness of the image especially with fast moving subjects such as sport. If you’re on a budget don’t be tempted by cheep brands, hold out until you can get a good Philips or LG model in the sales, those two companies are really up to date with LCD technology and if you can get the models that are on sale now at a later date, and a lower price, you’ll have a much better, more reliable, and more future proof TV.

Well I am a seller on ebay and I have a few flat panels available. So if you will, go to ebay and click on COMMUNITIES at the top. Then, next to the “find a member” button, type in uptown_apparel and click the button. You will see that name at the top of their list and to the right of it click on “seller’s items”. There are 4 tv’s there that i am selling but the 32 inch is currently unavailable so maybe there’s something else there you like. click on the items for all the details. You can email me at uptownapparel@yahoo.com about these items. Good luck!

I did some research and opted for the Panasonic digital 26″. Got it from the COOP, £100 cheaper than ARGOS. [£599.99]

I would go with pixel resolution… the higher the better…
I would like to see it in action first as well as I am really fussy about a clear picture.
Other than that I don’t know as i’m not really that technically minded :)

You need a high Contrast Ratio say 1000 to 1 minimum. This is the point on scale of Black to White, like MP3 with the points of Sampling. Samsung do a mean 32in LCD, 5000 to 1 Contrast. Personally i would choose a 37in as a 32in is like a 28in widescreen. Bit small i think anyway. As for which is the best go into W H Smith take a peek a Which/What T.V, then nip into Curry`s. But Samsung does take some beating for quality and contrast……
