The Tv's have a built in TV tuner. They also typically have several A/V inputs, like Coax, RCA, HDMI, RGB, etc.
The monitors by themselves, do not. They typically have a VGA input, and maybe an HDMI input. Some LCD Monitors may even have audio input if they have built-in speakers.
So basically, you cannot use an LCD monitor as a TV without additional hardware like a stand-alone tuner (Satellite or Cable), and the right input. HDMI would be a good video input into a monitor out of a tuner. But remember, if the monitor has no built in speakers, you'll have to route the audio to an audio source, like an A/V receiver.
